With access to the Persian Gulf through the southern coast, Iraqi ports have great geostrategic importance and provide effective connections with neighboring countries and global markets.

The development and management of ports in any country requires codified laws and regulations that, in addition to regulating the performance of ports, also ensure their security and protection. In this regard, Iraqi port laws are also very important as a vital mechanism for managing and creating suitable conditions in ports.

Here Some of important Ports that are known as the main entry and exit gates of Iraq to international markets:

  1. Al-Faw Port: One of the most important sea ports in Iraq, located on the shore of the Arabian Gulf in Basra Governorate. Minaj al-Faw is considered as the main entry point for incoming and outgoing goods to and from Iraq.
  2. Um Qasr port: It is considered as one of the main ports in Basra and it is located on the Shatt al-Arab river. It is the port of Umm Qasr, an important station for the export of Iraqi oil and the import of other goods.
  3. Al-Zabir port: located north of Al-Faw port and considered one of the main ports of Iraq. The port of Al-Zabair allows the entry of large ships and is used for the export of oil and other products.

In general, Iraqi ports play an important role in international trade, economic development and providing the needs of the country.
